84 S&S stalls at idle speeds

My 84 mastercraft has some issues it always starts right up runs fine off the trailer but once it warms up it wont stay running. When at idle but runs fine when the throttle is open another thing is after a long run it usually idles fine for a few mins before going back to not idling like its unloaded. I rebuilt the carb changed the plugs and wires all that usuall stuff. Im not really sure what to do next and I have the timing set at 8 degrees.

Do you know if the carb is starving from fuel? Is there fuel in the bowls?

Might be a clogged fuel filter / water separator.

Is it the Holley 4160? Is the idle fuel/air mixture set correctly. Should be 1 1/2 turns out on each side. I would double check that the idle passages are clear.

I would check the choke too - sounds like it's running rich.

These are the two things most likely to give you a problem.

When it gets into die mode - restart with carb access - move the choke towards closed
to see it that makes it recover or continues to die.

If it recovers adding choke - then its not getting enough fuel - continues to die - flooding internally - float setting/or idle mixture.

Best to know which condition exists.
