Yes, it's the 4.0 with the heavy duty 6 spd for the Rubicon package. Geared pretty low so I'm not concerned about moving forward in a straight line. Stability and stopping (trailer has brakes) are my primary concerns. Will try on a short trip. My longest tow is about an hour and can be done without touching the big highways.

I think you'd be fine. Why such a low tow capacity though? Wranglers are body on frame... does the hitch point not attach to the frame? The XJ's are rated at 5000lbs, and our wheel base is very similar, but I have the unibody construction rather than body on frame. I can't imagine yours would tow any worse than my XJ.

Maiden voyage for 2012
A little late, but finally got to hook up the new rig to the boat, and not just the work trailer.

First tow with 6-cylinder F150. Amazing power(torque) and very good mpg.

Very good MPG while towing? I saw a test in one of the magazines and the MPG while towing was around 10....FWIW the load was a lot heavier than what you have there.

Our new tow rig- '12 Durango R/T. Haven't hooked it to the MC yet, but with a 7400 lb towing capacity, I'm sure it will do fine. We've had it a week, and have nearly 1000 miles on it. I hope that doesn't happen often. One of the most comfortable vehicles I've ever driven.

Yea - curious what your mpg was. I have FX4 w/Eco and have yet to tow behind it but should be similar mpg's.

I have two EcoBoost trucks right now (one is mine one is inventory I have) and towing the X-25 loaded up they only get 9-11mpg. Boat, trailer, loaded is close to 6000lbs. It's slightly hilly around here up and back to the lake but gas milage isn't that great. It pulls very well though. On a 250 mile mostly highway trip yesterday with no boat it only averaged 15-16mpg.
