Is dealer recommending right oil?

I live in Wisconsin and have asked two MC dealers for recommendations on what oil to use in my 1998 Prostar 205. I have the standard engine. Both dealers have recommended Mobil Delvac. It is 15W/40 and is marketed towards deisel engines. Link below.

Is this right???

15w40 is right. That weight is for diesel and marine applications. Given that, choose a brand name conventional oil or synthetic in that weight. Most are really good oils. Some are great oils. Your move.

Since you have the Vortec heads and a roller cam, any oil that meets MC specs should do fine. A good diesel oil like that is probably fine. Rotella 15W40 is another good choice.

To me, this forum is about love of inboard boats. It is about the sharing of information and, on a good day, some humor. It is not about post count, brand of boat, or any other superfluous labels that lend themselves to a false sense of superiority. Please, respect one another, try to pass on accurate information, and keep your eye on the ball.

Good oil, and a good viscosity for marine engines. By at least 2001 (possibly earlier), Indmar was recommending 15w-40 for your engine.

I'd say your dealer is steering you in the right direction.

I was not looking for a which oil is better opinion...although I am grateful for replies like the one's from East TX Skier. I welcome opinions on what oil has worked well for you guys. My real question was the concern that the oil was marketed for diesel engines and is a different weight than what my manual says.

Just found the large Jugs of Mobil Delvac with $5 rebate at Farm and Fleet for those of you in WI. I will probably go that route unless anyone gives me a reason not to.
