I think I've narrowed it down to the F-150 FX4. Really leaning toward the 3.5L V6 (twin turbo) but have heard the 5.0L V8 is really strong too. And been much easier to find than the V6. Anyone out there with either?
Kyle - you said yours is an '09 with a 5.4L?

Tons of the Ecoboost trucks on the lots around here. If I was in the market for a new truck I would be giving it serious consideration.

go with the tundra crewmaxx, you will not need anything bigger, lots of room on the inside. You can blow up a full size mattress in the back seat, the back seats also recline.

I love my 07 Avalanche. 4x4 with 305/50/20 rims and tires. Ill post a pic below. Pulls the Xstar nice and use it for work and play. currently 150K miles and no problems except for changing brake pads. (knock on wood).

Have a '11 F150 work truck with the 5.0 and it is great mated with the 6speed auto. Don't have many miles on it yet, so cant comment on longevity of the drivetrain, but so far in the 8k mi I've had it, it's the most powerful 1/2 ton combo I've been in (save for 6.2 L Chevies and other hotrod options). IMO, it out pulls the newer 5.7Hemis and Tundras. Highway mileage, 2wd truck is 20mpg+ at 65-70mph. Just got 15mpg pulling an empty 20' 14kgvw trailer home last night, 3500lbs? maybe. Mixed commuting/jobsite driving is 16+mpg.
They tow very well. Had about 8klb trailer + a very loaded bed and the truck ran out easily. Could have hit 70-80mph on the on ramps if I floored it. IMO it will pull any MC short of an X80 with ease.
Trans does exactly what you'd want it to wrt holding a gear and not downshifting excessively. Knows when to downshift to hold back speed on downhills. Operates very similar to the Allison 1000 or the newer Dodge 68rfe's which is good.
This is all at sea level, so everything's relative, but I've never cared much for Ford's Triton engines and I've had alot of them, but the new 5.0 is the shizz.
Not sure what the upcharge is for the ecoboost, but the 5.0 rips!
My only real complaint and this is typical with all the Ferd 150's I've had is the rear springs are too soft. If you have any real weight in the bed consistently, even 3-400lbs or tow or load the truck down, overloads are a must. IMO the springs are more like a 1/4 ton. I put Timbrens on my new truck after having helper springs on previous ones and they work great and much easier install.

Thx for the feedback Thrall. Ended up getting the '11 F150 FX4 with the EcoBoost engine. Was not that easy to find. A lot of 5.0's still on the lot but not the V6. Heard they may start really dealing on the V8's in the next few weeks.

Have a couple of hundred miles on it and I'm amazed at this truck. Twin-turbos show little to no lag and the truck just pulls. Rides great and so far averaging 19+ mpg, which I can live with. Thx again to everyone's input.
