The GM Debt is not paid off. They simple did two things, borrowed additional government money and exchanged government debt for equity (stock). It made good press last April to say they repaid the original TARP funds which is what everyone wanted to hear but was not factual. It will be decades before they emerge from Government Motors and become General Motors again.
