Velvet Drive Transmission Dipstick
I took out my dipstick on my 84 s&s to add some transmission fluid and the dipstick wont screw back in. Is it supposed to catch threads or does it just sit in there??? I need some help here

My '77 is just a slide in fit. Are there threads on your transmission dipstick? (yes I worded this carefully)

It's fine like it is. Every old boat I have seen is like that.

Believe my '76 has a rubber grommet like a Thermos bottle (or transom drain plug). Just keep twistin' and it starts to tighten up

Yo might have to grip the metal lid and twist the handle a coupe times to make the rubber grommet "swell" enough to catch in the threads. You should be good to go then.

I ordered a new one from skidim.com as the old one had a nasty tear in the rubber and I think that was my problem. Homefully I will only be down for a couple of days.
