How big of a pain in the your know what was it to remove those Maristar decals?

They were flaking of from the sun. We used a heat gun and a wooden spoon sharpened like a scraper to get the reset of them of. Kind of like it without the decal myself. You can still see the MariStar slightly due to the sun yellowing the Gelcoat. This boat was across from a chemical plant for 2 years with out a cover on it so the gelcoat isn't as shiny as I hoped but we still can polish some more and get better results. Just more elbow grease.

Gelcoat is very stable and durable. An acid wash and/or buffing it with an automotive buffer per the numerous "gelcoat restoration" threads here should remove that oxidation layer.

How do you acid wash?

Acid wash was our first step used 50/50 mixture muritic acid and water applied with a 4 inch paint brush rinsed well with straight water. Second step was red rubbing compound and a buffer, Third step was polishing compound using a buffer. Still couldn't get the color to blend in were we removed the Maristar decals. Its close but if you look close you can still see the whiter shade where the decals were removed. Planning on another round as it seems the oxidation seems to reappear after about a month. My Dad told me it was always best to polish the gelcoat twice as the first round brings out the oxidization. I thought he was just punishing me.
