New ski maintenance?

My new Monza just arrived and it's been a while since I had a "new" ski, so I had a quick question. At one point in time, it was advised that before you rode a new ski, you should rub the bottom with steel wool, to get any waxes from the mold off of it, is this still correct? Is there something better to do/use?

Thanks.
