74 Mastercraft
Have a chance to pick-up this boat 'locally'. Owner is finally ready to sell.
3rd owner, all original except cleats swim platform back bar trailer engine (gave up in 95, replaced 351W block, all marine equip, etc on it original) upgraded brass prop Boat is solid, structure and fiberglass are nice, original gel coat & color scheme, etc. Have been looking for an 83-85 S&S, Seriously considering it since it's a classic. Would be used by family for skiing. What do you think is current $ / market value? Thanks everyone. |

Why not buy a boat that does not have wood stringers?

Buyers for a boat like this fall into two categories: those who want an inexpensive ski boat and those who appreciate it for it's collectors value as this is only the 5th year of production. Rat doesn't fall into either of these groups.

I think you'd be happier waiting it out for the 83-85 that you have your heart set on. Don't deal with wood if you don't have to.

I just sold a 75, so this is a pretty informed opinion. Niche buyer for sure. Buyer that wants to redo wont pay more for the condition that this boat is in, as they want to start over. True value without better pictures is closer to 4, than 3K, but I would be surprised if it goes over 4K, especially since we are on the downhill side of the 4th of July. My 2 cents.

83 1/2. Boats made after August I believe.

I had a 1978 I sold this spring. I recommend waiting and buying something newer. There was a big difference from my '78 to my friends '83. This may not be the case in all older boats, but my '78 had a porpoise issue as well as another boat on our lake that was a '76. Just something to consider, wood stringers, and floors not to mention finding parts if you need to replace anything and want to keep it original is harder. Wait for the boat you want, don't get something that you will want to upgrade soon. just my opinion...
