high idle

New to boating but mechanically inclined, I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for a high idle on my 1996 prostar 190 TBI. It seems to jump up to 10 mph when it gets put in gear and in neutral sits at 10-12 on rpm gauge which must be 1000-1200. I did alot of work to this boat this winter after I bought it. It runs great except for this. And it actually revs up and down from time to time. There is too much wake for no wake zones....

TPS sensor is bad or disconnected... it's located on the throttle body... google "Standard Motor Products - TH42" to see what it looks like

If it's connected it's bad - replace with

google "Standard Motor Products - TH42"

Napa MPF 329920
Standard Motor Products - TH42

see what it looks like.

So, I went to an auto parts store and not feeling 100% happy with the sensor he gave mgr because it looked exactly the same but want the same number or make you suggested. I put it in and when we tried to go full throttle it tried to stall. I put the other one back and it worked fine at full throttle. The idle was a bit lower but I can't be sure, I think I will try to find the exact replacement for that engine.
