Scammers trying to buy your boat?

So I'm sure you all are aware of the elaborate scammers out there.. Locally and internationally.
Luckily for me I'm an avid forum reader and I guess I have a shred of some common sense.. Sometimes.. Anyways, one tried to buy my boat just this week and instead of telling you the whole story step by step I'll just post a website for you to read. My scammer.. Ha as if I'm taking possession of the little blood sucker... Used the last technique on me...
FYI.. I knew prior to reading this that it was a scam. If it sounds to good to be true.. It probably is.. So i toyed with him a little like I was sucked in.

So i wish luck to all who are selling... And BE CAREFUL..

Pay Pal Scam | Craigslist's Dirty Little Secrets Revealed
http://craigslistpostingsecrets.word.../pay-pal-scam/

As part of trying to see how they did this I went along with it for awhile.. Gave my pay pal info and fake address. They sent me Fake emails saying payment confirmation. If I clicked on that links.. It would have asked to log into fake pay pal where they would then steal my credentials and use my pay pal to scam somebody else..
Here are the emails..

I got this - I assume this is a scammer:

Good to have your reply. I am Susan Vanderpool from Paxinos, PA and
would have loved to come and inspect this at your place myself, but I
am a marine engineer and presently off-shore. I am interested in
buying this for my son in Pennsylvania as a surprise birthday gift and
pls just make sure it is in condition described. I will appreciate
more pictures if available and will be sending your money asap. A
preferred shipping agent will be available to pick this up after
payment is made. Do you have paypal account? because, I have a paypal
account that I can easily send money through because, its good for
business payments. Get back to me with your paypal email address and
name in order for me to have your money sent on time. Confirm sale to
me at $3000 and remove the add from posting.
regards

Looks scammy from here. Not the minor things that indicate an imprecise grasp of the language (remove the "add") from a person with a job that would indicate a high level of education, as well as someone who is very careful and precise in what they do. I say ask for a number where you can make contact via telephone.

I told them I don't have a Paypal account and I only deal in cash: this is the reply:

Ok. Due to my present location, my choices are limited and not often
available by the phone. I am an honorable person and you will receive
your money cash in hand before this is picked up. However, it's easy
and free to open a paypal account. Just go to there website
www.paypal.com and sign up a personal account there. Paypal is the
world leading payment master that protects both buyer/seller interest.
You are on a secured transaction with paypal. Above all, it's like
instant cash. As soon as you open an account, get back to me with the
name and email that you linked with your paypal account and I will
have your money sent asap. And due to the nature of my job and having
being a paypal customer for the past 18 months with no charge back, I
feel more comfortable sending my funds via paypal due to there various
security measures at ensuring safe and secured transaction between
both buyer/seller. But, if you feel otherwise, I totally understand.
regards

Yep same thing happened to me about 4 years ago. Selling my old race boat, a bloke from London England wanted my boat right or wrong. Had it for sale for $15000. No problems he asked me my best price. I told him $18000 (yes I increased the price) and it was still no problem. I even told them it would come with an outboard engine, when it actually had an SBC 350 in it, and it still wasn't a problem that was the first alarm bell that rang. Secondly I needed to send him $1650 to a western union account to get the transaction underway? Why am I sending them money for a boat they want to buy?. I agreed and they sent me the western union account and I passed it onto the Australian Federal Police and onto paypal. Needless to say I didn't sell him the boat. Bit of common sense, and a bit of nouse and people will see through the dribble. I have to point out the language was terrible and the grammer was a shocker also. Again I work off shore and cant pay cash ill pay by paypal. MCers just do a due diligence ask them the questions and put them on the back foot. Ask them specific questions about the boat and youll see straight away its a scam.

I was selling a boat engine on Craigslist last year. I got this e-mail:

Quote:
I've read through the ad and I'm satisfied. I would have loved to give you call and discuss with you over the phone about the listing, but I'm currently out of town on a geophysical investigations in the mountains and won't be back in town until May 30. So coming to your residence for inspection won't be possible at this very moment but will appreciate it much better if you can get back to me with its present condition.

More so, I would love to make an instant purchase, and will be paying through my PayPal account that is attached to my bank account. You will be notified by PayPal as soon as I make the payment in to your PayPal account, and you will be able to receive your money directly from your bank. You can set up your own account with PayPal if you do not have any. Simply log on to www.paypal.com and create your own account; it's free.

If you already have a PayPal account, please do get back to me with the following information so that I can proceed with the payment or later when you have you own PayPal account created.

1.Your PayPal email address,
2.Full name,
3.Phone number
4.And the pickup address.

And as for the pickup, I will send a shipper to come and pick it up after you've received your money. Please do pull down the ad from the Craigslist so I can be assured that the deal is on.
This was my response:
Quote:
In light of an e-mail I just received, I will no longer be selling the unit. A nigerian prince is offering me millions of dollars to help him transfer money to this country. I will be quitting my job tomorrow in order to spend more time helping the prince and that will give me the opportunity to do something with the unit. I appreciate your interest and regret that we are unable to make a sale. This impending financial windfall is unprecedented for me in my lifetime. I am sure you share my enthusiasm.
They didn't reply.
