05 vs 06 x30?
I am looking for advice on whether the 05 x30 is significantly different from the 06? I am looking at an 05 right now in mint condition with about 175hrs on it and an 06 in good condition with about 340hrs. Both around 40K. Just wondering if there were significant design issues added in 06 that I should be considering?? We will be using the boat primarily for surfing. Thanks for your help!

I had an 06 X30 last year and it was great for surfing. I can't tell you anything on the differences between the two. If you buy the 06, I would be happy to tell you how we weighted it for a good surf wave.

Yes, huge differences between 05 and 06. 06 first year of new hull design and interior. More room on the 06 and I've heard the surf wake on the 06 is better as well. If boats are in similar condition, I'd choose the 06. Both are relatively low hours for the year.

Ya it seems as though guys are having trouble getting a good surf wave between 02 and 05, so I'm curious as to whether the 06 hull design made a big difference for surfing.

The difference in the hulls is night and day. It's an apples to oranges kind of thing between the hulls and the surf wake they make.

as much as i like my 02 X30, for comparable boats, i'd go with the 06+ hull. the 01-05 X30 is the same hull as the 225VRS that was intoduced in 98. iirc, the name changed to 230VRS in '99 but its the same hull. not sure but all the things that make the 06+ hull a better surf/wake boat make make the 98-05 hull a better slalom tug. most of the 06+ hulls come with a trim tab and its very rare on the pre 06 hulls. i tried to upgrade to an 06 hull last year but my local dealer didn't use enough lube and i got a rectal fissure. another consideration is resale value. in most cases, you'll get more money out of a "newer" hull when it comes time to sale. i'll be facing that. no matter how nice my boat may be, its still an "old" hull when it comes time to sale. i'm not trying to slam my boat, in fact i really like it and i've got the wakeboard wake and the surf wake pretty dialed in. however, if i were given 2 fairly equal boats, i'd choose the newer hull.

Anyone know how the seating capacity went from 12 in 05 to 16 in 06 but the overall boat length stayed the same, and the width only increased by a few inches??

many factors go into the seating capacity rating - the 06 and up has a much deeper freeboard
