Wiring WEMA fuel sender

The instructions for installing a WEMA fuel sender say the pink wire should be connected to ground, which my multimeter thinks is the black lead from the boat based on checking for continuity to the main grounding point on the engine block on my 1994 ProStar 190.

I want to make sure Iím not missing anything important before reversing the colors in connecting these wires. Have others installing a WEMA fuel sender on a circa 1994 boat found they needed to connect the black lead from the sender to the pink lead from the boat and the pink lead from the sender to the black lead from the boat?

Generally the pink wire would go to the gauge and the black wire to the ground system on a two wire system. Doesn't really matter as it is just an adjustable resistor. Link is to a standard marine color code for wiring. Pink is described from sender to gauge.

From the WEMA website, it appears the black lead from the sender feeds the gauge.

It seems a bit backwards to me. In the DC world, black is usually to ground.

He is a thread I created for a 2 wire sender the PINK wire from my sender goes to the gauge.
