Uplander,

Yes, you can do without a head-unit with an EQ like the WS-420SQ

imyourmatser,

The WS-420 is not a source for unwanted noise. I would say its improper tuning or installation.

Thanks, I was thinking about buying a new head unit but this might be a better idea.

I run my boat without a head unit. I have a bluetooth receiver plugged into the main input of the ws420 and use the aux port occasionally. I wired the remote turn on for the amps and ws420 to an unused switch on the dash.

After about 6 months of use, my ws420 was the source of a lot of noise in my system, but it turned out to be a bad op amp on one of the outputs. After some discussion with wetsounds, I sent it back to them for testing and they replaced it.

I still have the original head unit, so I could add this to control volume and would be able to control sub better.

I think this thread just cost me some money

The WS-420SQ has a master volume, tower zone volume, in-boat zone volume, independent equalization for these 2 zones and finally, a sub volume control. Will work in any system in which the head-unit has RCA pre-outs and amps driving the speakers.
