Miami or the Keys FL 1/12-1/15
Hi Guys,
We have a few extra days in Florida, and my wife and I were hoping to catch a ride somewhere south of Miami, or in the keys around the 12th through early morning 15th of January. Skiing, boarding or surfing would be superb. We were planning on renting a boat from Keys Cable, but it seems they do not do that anymore. Our backup plan is the cable (which I have never done). We have cash, and great detailing skills! Thanks! |

If I was in that area with a rental car, i'd head north to chet railey's in near ft lauderdale.

I wish that were possible, but I'm not much of a course skier. Thanks for the lead!

Keys Cable was just a 2.0 system last time I was there.

We hit Keys Cable last time we were down, they have 2 system 2.0's....one with features and one for beginners. They have their own private 7 acre lake for it, always good water.
You can also charter a Whaler for wakeboarding on Islamorada. Same place that rents jet skis. (Jet skis are fun to explore around there too!) I don't think anyone rents wakeboard boats in the Keys, I looked.

For anyone that is interested, Keys Cable does still charter their boat but it is currently being repaired. They also would have been able to get me a ride with Danny Hampson, but the timing and weather didn't work out. Thanks everyone for your input!

So did you end up riding cable at Keys Cable? If so, how did you like it?

I went and checked it out, but honestly it didn't look like that much fun. They had just replaced the cable, and it was really bouncing. Completely different than the cable parks I've seen in videos.

I wanted to bump this thread again since you guys have been so helpful in the past. We are heading back to Miami 12/30, and have 4 nights to relax before the rest of our group arrives. This trip is a little different with us bringing our then 1.5 year old.
We're looking for a decent family oriented resort around Miami that isn't $400 a night. Any advice? |

Well, it's not in Miami so if that's a hard requirement then forget this suggestion, but of you still can get into the keys we really enjoyed staying at what is now anyway Rainbow Bend.
http://rainbowbend.com I think it may have been something else when we were there, but anyway. It's a simple little place i Marathon, so 90 miles south of Miami. But you get use of a skiff with outboard while you are there, (there's one for each room I think). We had great fun snorkeling, exploring the waterways, seeing the manatees, and they have these Tiki type bars on the waterway you just drove up to and tie the boat up. Really cool. It's not a 5 star hotel or anything but clean and well done, at least when we were there. |
