02 X-30 with 5.7 260hp, is that Enough to Surf?

Hello, I'm looking at buying a 2002 X-30 with the Indmar 5.7 260HP motor. I would really like to surf off this boat. So I was planning to replace the ballast system with 750 bags in the rear lockers and upgrade the pumps. In 2002, one of the optional motors was the 8.1L with 425hp. 425HP compared to 260HP, seems like it might be underpowered. My question is, will the 260HP motor be able to do what I need it to do? Or should I look for a different boat with a bigger motor? Thank you

It won't be under powered, it may just feel a bit sluggish out of the hole if you have a lot of extra ballast in the boat.

I could be wrong, but I think the 5.7L in 2002 was actually 310HP?

310HP sounds much better than 260HP. 310HP should do it. Thank you.

In 2002 the base engine would have been a 310 hp 5.7 liter engine called a Predator, basically it is a throttle body injected chevy 350. The upgraded engine would have been a 330 hp 5.7 liter engine called the LTR. The LTR was a multipoint fuel injected engine. Photos below. Both will get the job done and as near as I can tell (from driving them) the low end grunt strength is identical.

Yep 310 hp base engine called the predator w/tbi. Optional engine was rated at 350hp but really~325hp. I have the base engine in my 205v with sacks and it has plenty of power. That being said, I always loved big block Chevys and the 425 hp version has all the good stuff so a tempting option for you to consider...

Agreed with the above. Should be 310hp and it's plenty when propped correctly. Consider 500 for a good prop into you budget as well.

you can surf, make sure to check prop for correct dia and pitch also. I put a 900 in the port locker and had a blast all summer.

wakemaker sells a kit that installs in about 10 minutes
