2013 X-30 - is 5.7 engine enough?

I am taking a hard look at picking up a 2013 x-30 (essentially new, less than 15 hours), but the boat is outfitted with the 5.7 liter engine. Or current boat is a 07 X-2 with the MCX, and the only reason for the move would be for greater space and a better surf wake. My wife and I are beginner surfers (until this summer, we spent most time slaloming and boarding). The dealer has recommended adding 750lb/side of additional rear ballast to go along with the stock ballast.

Thoughts on the 5.7 (vs. ordering a 2014 with the 6.0) given the above setup and intended use would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not convinced the 6.0 gives you all that much over the 5.7. Also, if that's all you're going to run, I would think the 5.7 would be enough in the X-30. If you are going to eventually sack it out - order the 2014 with the 6.2 - skip the 6.0 -

I have an 08 xstar with the 6.0 and upgraded prop and it's more than enough to run my boat fully loaded with the PWT ballast sys plus factory plus people. If you do get the 5.7 then I recommend to at least definitely upgrade the prop

5.7 is fine for me, I usually have two additional 750's and a 370 filled and it does well. If I was ordering a new one I may upgrade the engine just because you can never have enough horsepower but it's not a rational need

I can attest that the 5.7 is enough. Last year I had the 5.7 and this year I have a 2013 with the 6.0 and while there is a difference, it's isnt huge. I had the exact same setup you are looking at, and for surfing its great. Even with a boat full of people it was never a problem getting up to speed or planing. The wake plate is a necessity though.

I'd recommend you try driving it with the extra weight so you can see for yourself. I'd imagine going to a 2014 with the 6.0 will be an extra $10k plus and the 6.2 would be $15k. If that's the case is go with the 2013 and 5.7.

The 5.7 is more than enough. My 2012 X-30 is equipped with the 5.7 and it's run strong for almost 80hrs now.

To date, the most weight I've carried hovers around 3,100lbs = 1,700lbs (sacs) + 800lbs (factory ballast) + 600lbs (gear and people). With all of that in the boat it performed very well.

Thanks, everyone, for their thoughts. We pulled the trigger today on the 2013 X-30 with the 5.7, and can't wait to take delivery in a couple of weeks (the dealer is adding a transom remote, a JL sub and a JL 5 channel amp to the sound system, 4 pop-out fender mounts, and additional 1500lb of rear ballast). We're trading our 2007 X-2 to the Atlanta MC dealer, so anyone in the southeast that's looking for a low hours 2007 x-2 (less than 220 hours) with the MCX, give Mike D and the great folks at Water Sports Central a call.
