D.I.Y. L.E.D.'s Installation help

I'm thinking about putting some L.E.D.'s on our X-15. Was thinking of using the LED rope style that can change color, putting them around the top of the cupholders, couple more hidden behind the panels on each side of the boat and maybe on the tower speakers.
I was wondering if anyone has done this and could give me some tips and also what I need to get other than just the LEDs.
As always pics would be good also

Here is how I did mine, everything is tied into the existing courtesy lights. You can also run to an unused switch. Typical would be wash down or seat heat.
