Has anyone raised the driver's seat up?
I always have people complain that they can not see when driving my Xstar. I keep it weighted pretty rear bias and the boat naturally has a lot of bow rise when planing off. I never thought too much about it until I sat in a 2013 Star and realized how high the drivers seat sits. I am now thinking about raising my seat a few inches.
The bottom of the seat bracket is bolted down with 8 bolts into the fiberglass, so I am thinking about basically making a spacer to lift it up. Has anyone done this before? My only real worry is the added stress on the bolts, but I am sure I can find a way to make it work. If it works out well I bet I know a short curly haired guy that would be interested in doing the same thing. |

I did, and it worked out pretty well. If I can get the cover off today, I'll take some photos.
I grabbed a length of 3" aluminum C Channel from the local metal surplus place, cut it to length, and placed it between the seat base and the floor. Looks pretty good, IMO, although my MC OCD isn't strong.

I wanted to raise the seat on my '96 205, so I bought these on eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MasterCraft-...ab4330&vxp=mtr The bottom matched the holes in the floor fine, but the top was too short for the seat slides. I took some aluminum angle and make an extension for the top and it worked out pretty well. The back of the seat is about 5" higher and the front is about 3" higher. I found some stainless steel slides to replace my old slides as well. I also used threaded inserts in the floor and stainless steel allen head screws to hold the brackets down. I'm sure I look like a geeb with my entire head (6'2") above the windshield, but I can see everything. We had been sitting on two of the square throwable cushions for better visibility.

The Xstar seat sits a ton lower. I am 6'1" and even with the seat flipped my head is still under the windshield.

87' Prostar, we turned our base and re mounted the seat to it!
It gave us about 2-3" of lift. Now my wife doesn't need a throwable! |

Liking the sound of this, will have to venture in the garage tonite and check out the base on mine.
