Sea Foam Engine Cleaning

I would like to see if I could clean the internals of my LT-1 as far as removing carbon deposits using Sea Foam. Currently I just add it, or something similar, to the fuel tank. I have looked at several videos on how it is done on a car, but didn't really see any with a boat. I would assume it would be the same procedure by sucking it in through a vacuum tube but I do not know which tube that would be. Has anyone done this before on their boat? I do not want to add it to the oil until the end of the season when it is time for an oil change again.

I don't see why you could not do the same as in the youtube videos. How do you know you have carbon deposits? If you do it - please make videos.

I haven't used seafoam as top end cleaner although I have used gm's top end cleaner, simply use a manifold vacuum source (like your pcv port) you will need to keep the revs up until all fluid has been consumed and it will very likely smoke. I haven't done a boat but have done many cars.

Indmar bulletin, It appears this method just cleans the rings and top of pistons and not valves.

Procedure for applying Upper Engine Cleaner Kit S495149
1. Drain the oil from the engine. Not the filter.
2. Leave the cap off the oil drain hose.
3. Remove the fuel rail and fuel injectors.
4. Add 2oz of the UEC to each cylinder through the injector holes.
5. Mark the balancer as a reference.
6. Turn the crank 720. This will push the cleaner into the piston ring lands.
7. Let the chemical set for 1.5 hours.
8. Add 2oz of UEC to each cylinder for a second time.
9. Turn the engine over 720. Note: You should be close to or hydro lock on
each cylinder.
10. Let sit another hour.
11. Spin engine over by hand until free.
12. Add 1 quart oil and let it drain out.
13. Install the cap back onto the drain hose.
14. Fill engine with oil.
15. Reinstall the fuel injectors and fuel rail.
16. Put the boat in the water and start the engine. Let it idle until it reaches
operating temp.
17. Drive the boat keeping the RPM above 3500 for 10 minutes.
18. Perform many WOT launches.
19. Change oil and filter.
Flat Rate Labor Allowance: 2.5 Hr (Add .5 if plenum must be removed to access
fuel rail.)

Hmmm. Interesting. Thanks for the info j. It does not appear to be as straight forward as a car, unfortunately and it says the chemical has to sit for a couple hours, where a car is only about 10-15 mins.

@mikeg205, I noticed that my throttle body has a decent amount of deposit behind the butterfly valve and I figure with a nearly 20 yr old engine, there has to be some inside the as well. I am not having performance issues or anything, just thought it couldn't hurt. If I do end up doing it, I will be sure to video and/or take good pics.

Ain't that the truth. Nothing is quite as glorious as hammering the throttle from a dead stop with loads of torque sitting within a couple of feet of you. The sound, the smell, the feeling... just amazing. Thank god for the combustion engine.
