rudder position setup

Got some work done on our mastercraft a while back , which involved replacing the rudder. Now that we have been using it a bit this season i noticed that it turned one way alot more than the other. checked the rudder position abgles out and it turns 45 degress one way and 27.5 degrees the other. i thought it should turn equally both ways. does this sound right.

Something definatly is amiss, mine turns equally both directions. Probably just need the steering cable properly adjusted.

Maybe the arm that clamps onto the rudder post was not replaced in the original position.

not sure how you adjust it but its hydraulic steering.

The rudder arm is keyed and only fits 1 way on the rudder. It is not splined. It is keyed like the old school props.


You will probably need to adjust the part of the cable that is on the floor bracket. Loosen where the clamp holds the cable and slide it in the appropriate direction to get even steering.


You will likely need to re adjust the steering wheel as well.

Find 12oclock on the steering assembly. Adjust cable at the floor bracket. Slide either in or out and make the rudder pretty straight.

The rudder should look like it is pulling left slightly. That is made up due to prop rotation.

well i heard back from them and they said it was put back in the same adjustment as it was when they got it, so therefore it had to come like that from the mastercraft factory. as anyone heard of this happening.

hmmm, that a repair shop says that it was like that before they worked on it, never.......

The rudder should turn the same amount either way, even with hydraulic steering.
Do you have a pic of the steering assembly inside the boat at the rudder?
Maybe there is a sliding adjustment or a second hole for the rudder arm?

Yeah I agree. But since I didn't check it before it went in I can't really say either way. Not sure about adjustments yet. Hopefully I will get a chance to look at it this weekend
