![]() How do I find Mastercraft mechanics in my area without taking my boat back to the dealership where I purchased it. It takes weeks to get simple service.
My MMDC failed last weekend and I had my boat there at 8:00 am on Monday morning when the gates opened. It's yet to be put on the machine to look for a failure. The part is cheap and I think relatively simple to replace. Just need to know where to find someone qualified/certified by Mastercraft. It's the end of summer and I don't want my boat sitting in a boat yard (already been there 2 weeks this summer for an oil change). ![]() Boat lives at Lake Tillery, NC (Mount Gilead, NC) and I live in Raleigh, NC

If you are not happy with your dealer where you purchased the boat, try another dealer. I believe only dealers are going to have the diagnostic tools for modern MC's w/ Indmar or Illmor engines.

You don't need a dealer. The guy I use isn't a dealer and he has the tools.

is your boat under warranty? if not any certified indmar mechanic can take care of you and should have access to the parts.

Guess I'm lucky to have a #1 dealer and service shop in the country, well that what I think at least. I can bring my MC in and it'll get serviced promptly even when the service stalls are crammed full and theres no parking in the lot.
If I were you I'd have a heart to heart talk with the service manager, theres no reason not to have a diagnosis done while you're wait'n and then give you some option on what to do. was your boat purchased at the dealer where you brought it in for service? MMDC? and what makes you thinks that the problem? if its yet been diagnosed |

There are 3 MC dealers in NC; Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh.
Inboard Marine Service (Joe Thompson) is in Wilson (my #1 guy!) Powerboat Service Inc (Diego Serge) is in Raleigh on Atlantic Ave. (highly recommend) Your Mobile Technician (Brandon Patrick) is a mobile boat service. He is based out of Durham, but will travel to you to perform the work. There are a few people on here who use him. |

You definitely don’t need a dealer and if the only thing wrong is the MMDC waiting 2 weeks is ridiculous for them to even look at. It has 2 screws that mount it under the dash and depending on the model about a 16 to 24 pin plug that connects to the wiring harness. A ten minute fix that no doubt you will pay the minimum labor fee of 2 to 4 hours. That being said the MMDC controls/assists a lot of stuff in the VDIG so you could have an electrical issue which can take hours to follow the wires diagnosing the problem. If that’s the case you no doubt will go to the back of the line for boats they can get out quickly… In my opinion a good dealer would have swapped out the MMDC while you waited because it’s so quick and if that fixed it sent you on your way the same day… especially if you purchased your boat from them new or used that usually carries a lot of weight.

I believe to get the cost covered by warranty the work will have to be done by a Mastercraft authorized mechanic, aka Dealer. One of the other shops in my area told me they can work on Mastercraft but can not do warranty work.
