What an impeller should and should not look like.

We were out in our '94 ProStar 190, things went great in the morning, but in the afternoon the temp gauge just took off and the engine temp light went on. We got the boat back to the dock and then opened up the cover and pulled the impeller (or what was left of it). See the picture here in comparing the old vs a new impeller - decided that we will replace this at least every other year to play it safe. Put the new one in and everything is back to normal!

How long did you have that thing in there?? This should be replaced every spring, and keep the old one for backup. It's very cheap insurance.

We just bought the boat a few weeks ago, my guess is a good 6-8 years.

I pull mine after every season, then replace the following season, usually put a new one in every 2-2.5 years.

Yes - we had 2 spares, both on shore - I think I will keep 1 on shore and then 1 in the boat with a few tools on board just in case. And I think we are going to replace every 2 years and possibly every year. We'll always inspect it every spring now. Glad it was not costly and glad we had a couple of spares already.

Replace it every spring....you wont loose a day on the water because of it. Keep the old one as a spare.

If the broken vanes are in the block, how do you get them out? Is there any way to backflush the block?
