My transmission needs to be replaced!!!

Uh what kick in the gut! Just got off the phone with my dealer and they informed me my tranny needs to be replaced on my 2003 x30. The boat was used in salt water for the first 200 hours and fresh water the last 80. It looked like it was just the rear seal was leaking, which he replaced but as it turns out the front as well is gone. So Both the seals were shot. There was a leak around the center drain plug and a decent amount of salt water splashed in her before I got it. So the bolts on the tranny are pretty rusted out. My dealer (who by the way I trust and have a great reputaion here in New England) said it was $4,000 just for the part! Totally depressing. After replacing the risers seals cleaning up the engine and a few extras. I'll be approaching $7,000. Any ideas???

I think it is what it is. I know the dealer is well respected and trusted. I don't doubt them. He says in the condition it is in its not worth attemepting a rebuild giving the amount of drilling out and tapping involved working through the rust and all. Anyone know of a used tranny for my model boat kicking around??? HELP!

On the upside, at least my boat will be completely mint afterwards!

Hell it must be bad! I would have thought if it was dropped in a tub of wd40 for a week and some perseverance. If the casing is actually sound it would be worth working on yourself. Depends how big a hurry you are in.

Did you try any of the Marine rebuilders for a used rebuilt one? There are a bunch out there and I would bet this is not the first time this has happened and that there is a company that specializes in replacements especially in Florida. I did a quick Google search and came up with this.....

What trans are you looking for?

There's a butt load on Ebay too....

If you love your boat and intend on keeping it, replace the trans. Actually, even if you do sell her in the future, at least you can say it has a new one.
You must have done some nice mods besides riser gaskets for the other $3K.
What did you add? Sounds like you're making it just the way you want it, which is great.

BTW, if you're dealing with NEFWM they are great!
