X45 ballast for surfing
I have been having a real problem with adding enough weight to get a good surf wave. I have 2 400# sacks one in each rear compartment, all of the factory tanks (3) filled, and the wake in not even close to be able to let go of the rope, what are we doing wrong. The X45 is a big *** boat, just add more weight?

Start by only filling the ballast on the side you want to surf.

x2, only fill the surf side rears and KGB, all peeps on surf side, add one or two peeps in the bow (surf side) if you have enough to lengthen the wave. If you have a center tab, make sure it is up as this will kill the wave.
Funny, I use the tab to mess with my son when he is showing off to much, the center tab will/can kill the wave His reaction is priceless, what the heck, ahh great, thanks Dad![]() |

This is with approximately 2500 added ballast:
750 in locker, custom 1000 under seats, 400 in pop bags, 400 on seat. Custom swim platform. |

1000 port rear, 750 port cooler and 450 in port corner. STBD surf tab down. Wave is perfect.

tbh, I would really like to set up an X45 for someone. I just think you could get such a good wave out of that boat with far less weight then what is going in them. Yes, I do not have a 45 and I could be talking out the side of my neck right now but I think it could be done with less weight.

![]() In my boat, I didn't get any better, big, cleaner wave with more weight. In fact, it was completely counter productive to put more weight up front. Dropping from 2000 lbs down to 1700 made a longer wake without losing any height. Like I said, I could be very wrong since I have not weighted one. You're wave does look nice. ![]()

You make a good point that each boat requires a different setup and throwing more weight on the corner surf side is not always the answer. I think the process of "tweeking" the wave is part of the fun. I am constantly doing this. I have followed your posts during you process. You've done a nice job tweeking your 30. SKADMAN.
