76 S&S rudder install?

So taking it out is the easy part! Does anyone out there now the proper specifications for re-installing a rudder for a 76 S7S. The rudder port has packing in it and the cap is tightened down which in turn tightens arounds the rudder shaft. How tight should it be around the rudder shaft or how much play should there be? Any answers would be greatly appreciated!
