Question 2006 X2 - Feedback Please.

First off Hi all...very new to the forum...first post.

I am seriously contemplating the purchase of a 2006 X2 loaded and would like any or all feedback positive and or negative...any thing would be appreciated.

It would be mainly used for skiing, wake-surfing and the kids on a tube.

Any comments on operation, winterization, known issues or anything you feel pertinent would be awesome.

Thanks in advance,

Todd.

Todd, let us know what % of time for each activity - what is most important? You didn't mention wakeboarding - is that a likely activity as well? This is a wakeboard specific boat so I'd guess you are leaning to wakeboard/wakesurf. Once the gang here knows what is most important to you then the X2 owners can comment on suitability.

Yes...sorry left out wakeboarding. As far as percentage that will totally depend on who is out at the lake that weekend so it would be very hard to stipulate exact percentages.

We are unable to wakesurf with our current boat and are looking very forward to taking it on...this is one of the major reasons for upgrading.

As the kids are growing up they are getting away from being pulled around on a tube and are now getting into the "wake sports"...again thus the upgrade.

Thanks a ton for you response.

Todd.

The X-2 is a truly excellent boat. If you were a hard core skier who wanted a dead-flat wake through the course, I'd say go for a Prostar, but for family activities, wake sports and recreational water skiing, the X-2 is hard to beat.

X-2 is a great multi-sport boat. Good family boat. If it is a good deal I would go for it. You might also want to look at the X-15. It has a little more room and a better surf wake.

Thanks Gents...it will be a multipurpose family boat...great feedback.

Anyone with any hands on with regards to operation, handling, maintenance etc?

The maintenance is conventional. From an operation standpoint, your challenge will be finding the right ballast combinations to provide you with the wake you want for surfing and wakeboarding - lot's of good information here about whether or not you want to use the OEM ballast tanks or add some fat sack, or maybe wake tabs. Handling, not inconceivable you'd want to re-prop if you find the OEM prop not to your liking for the given sports you're doing...for example, a great slalom ski prop may be different than the best prop for surfing or even wakeboarding speeds.

Awesome all around boat and likely the boat I'd buy if my extra cash. My first love is the X-Star but the X-2 is more practicle and garage friendly. Overall the X-2 is geared a little more towards boarding and surfing but the ski wake is good enough for recreational skiing and while its not their boat of choice for it I know a couple guys that have skied a course with an X-2.

Overall an 06' is a pretty reliable boat, no issues or kinks to work through. I wasnt a huge fan of the factory cruise, it worked but I am used to Perfect Pass and liked it better, its an easy upgrade and like I said the factory cruise worked well for skiing and boarding. I've run X-2's with both the 310 and 350 hp engine, both will do the trick and both have pretty similar hole shot, the 350 pushes the boat a little faster and I mean a little faster.

We run an additional ballast bag that ties into the rear hard tanks, its esspecially nice for surfing but we use it for boarding too. The stock prop was usually a 13.7x17.7, it works good, a 14.25x14.5 works better but is not necessary unless you are buying a backup anyways. The ballast kit is available from Fly High, it was designed specifically for the X-2 (happy to say we had a little part in it!)

At winterization you will need to drain the ballast tanks and pumps in addition to the engine. We typically backflush everything with RV Antifreeze then drain that as well. Oil change every 50 hours and impellar every 100 hours. I'd change the transmission fluid at winterization too.

Good post Corey!

I have a 06 X2 and love it!!!!! For our family it was a perfect fit. My wife and I have 4 kids and all of them wakeboard and Surf. I will tell you that from a operational aspect, this boat is very user friendly! If you have never had a inboard boat before then you will need some practice docking! I have the 350 MCX and my boat will do about 47 top speed. However we have only run that speed a few times. With these boats you need to realize that they are not made for speed. The best cruising speed I have found that is Gas friendly is around 25-28mph. One of the best things about the X2 is the amount of storage it has and the fact that you can put 12 adults in comfortable. I challenge anyone out there to find a 20 foot boat that can do that! I would say buy it!!!! You can’t go wrong with this boat!!!!

Handling wise I'd say very good in forwards. But have you driven an inboard or v drive boat before? They back up strange if you are use to I/O's but not as strangely as jets.
