How do I take this cover off?
I need to get to my gas tank to check my sending unit. Any idea how this back cover comes off? I already took out the two screws in the corners. That's all I found so far. It's a 98 Sportstar. Thanks!!

On mine you just pull out from the bottom and the brackets that hold it up top slide down with the cover. In fact after I got it out I found straps that should have been on the outside to help with it.

I am almost certain that there are only the two screws holding that cover on. Unfortunatly, they are the screws you already took out! Have you tried to get something underneath it or behind it to pull it out? I would try and pull it from the bottom first.

It's all attached right? So when it comes out even the deck pad should come with it?

No the sun deck pad is not part of that assembly. However, I believe the striped cushion (backrest) is mounted to that rear cover. Try and pry it out or get something behind it down by the floor and see if you can't coax it out.

Pull the top pad off first. Lift the pad at the back part of the boat. It uses push in fasteners for the back part and then you will have to slide the pad aft. That will actually give you access to the sending unit.
If you still need remove the backrest pad, it just pulls straight up once the top pad is removed. If this doesn't make sense, let me know and I will take some pictures tonight. Brian |

My 98 205 pulled straight up in the front and the slid forward, towards the bow. The snap in connectors did break off, like the ones used to hold in door panels on a car. I used heavy duty velcro to re-attach & that seems to work fine.
