My 01 X5 doesn't have the ballast tubes so that confirms what you said. As far as I can tell there are no splices/repairs in the air lines anywhere from where they enter the hull at the stern to the MDC so I think that's the way it came from the factory.

I just replaced my MDC -- likely the PO didn't drain the lines -- but I wanted to make sure about the ballast before I hooked the air lines back up in case I wrecked the new MDC on my next outing.

I guess with the new speedo/MDC combination, the need to buffer the air pressure like with the old Airguides no longer exists.
