Easiest method by far. The previous owner of the '88 PS190 we bought in '12 did that same thing religiously. We did the same thing on our 209 once we got it from the prev. owner (who kept it outside on a lift all buttoned up). The hoses were covered in a "whitish grey film". Air circulation is a big thing. We travel with the engine cover unlatched and held down off the floor 6" or so by a length of line tied to the BF boom mount on the ski pylon. It gets plenty of airflow, it blew the LTR decal off the top of the engine, I found it when I winterized this fall.
