whatever you use - I would not leave it on very long.... heat gun softens paint as well - but you and you don't have to cook the gel coat. Had some old vinyl letters on my boat that felt like hard plastic and seemed welded to the gel coat... 10-20 seconds with a heat gun softened the corners and 10-20 more made the adhesive soft and the scraped away in seconds with a wooden spatula...
