disclaimer: I've never done this before.

I'm replacing my 4010 with a newly-rebuilt Holley 4160.

IMO a family of five that skis needs a DD 205. It will hold all of you when necessary, will have better wake than the 209, and will come in under budget.

My question wasn't about power turns (which I don't do, BTW). I was wondering about any deleterious effects on the tranny/drivetrain of leaving it in gear vs letting the prop freewheel as the boat...

slowing down technique

I know the answer to this is "it doesn't matter" but I'm asking anyway.

When slowing suddenly from skiing speed, i.e. 34 mph, I rapidly bring the lever back into Neutral to let the prop freewheel,...

If you plan to do any significant skiing you'll want a direct drive, not V-Drive.

I personally know of a 1999 PS205 (not a 205V) that is in near-mint condition, 200 hours. He won't sell it for $15k...
