My Mastercraft manual says Ignition Type = Distributor HEI. I assume that means it is an electronic ignition (based on a Wikipedia entry I just found).

The purpose of these things is to keep the engine cover up when lifted and to help make lifting it up easier. If your current poundage works for you then I don't see a reason to increase.

Yes, I'm aware of this. I made my comment about MPH because it seemed possible from Mike's post that he was thinking the numbers along the X axis were MPH rather than RPM numbers.

The "problem" I was referring to was actual water flow blockage due to interior rust/scaling. It does not seem surprising to me that rust exists inside the cooling chambers and perhaps even more so...
