I'd pop it open and investigate first. I've had flakes of rust prop the thermostat open enough to keep water flowing. Cleaned them out and all was good again.

Something is definitely loose. If EVERYTHING is jumping I'd suspect the ground wire as the grounds are all connected back there. It's a real mess.
