Yours was coated with oil because the previous owner or whoever serviced it didn't clean it. These all collect that stuff and the easy answer to "How do I keep it clean?" is to clean it annually....

The shopping channels and the crap like Hallmark are the only reason cable price is where it is. Without the crap, we'd all pay more. They're certainly not paying customer service well.

Check with MC- they had a tech bulletin about the MIL not being wired correctly at one side of the boat/engine plug but don't remember if your year was involved. Unplug the connector at the engine...

I saw many boats with badly overheated engines and they ran fine, for years after. It's possible that yours was overheated and restarted while it was too hot and the thermal shock may have caused the...

RPM reduction doesn’t kick in until 200 degreesF- how is 180 “too hot”? In AZ and other places where the air temperature is high, they had a separate calibration that set RPM reduction at about 220...

My gut tells me that the clogged oil filter had a lot to do with the temperature spike but remember- 180 degrees is not a spike, nor is 200, unless it increases a lot over a very short period of...

You didn't write anything about regularly cleaning the cable clamps and battery posts- that's always a good way to start with this problem.

Another good idea is to stop hammering the clamps on with...

If that Prestone isn't RV antifreeze, it's a problem. Dump that into a body of water when someone from the DNR is around and they're gonna make their presence known.

Did you re-tighten the distributor hold-down? If not, you may have lost the distributor's contact with the block and it needs that in order to produce spark.

Why is 180 degrees a problem? A lot of cars and trucks run with 194 degree thermostats and they heat soak without bad effects. My Astro van shows 220+ in Summer when I turn the key to ON without...

Try to open the thermostat manually- if the old one opens more easily, replace it.

What manual is that- Clymer? That statement is far too broad and it's inaccurate. EFI refers to all of those, but phased warm-up is NOT part of MEFI I, MEFI 2 or CEFI (for boats) ECM control. The MC...

It's a car part- if you can't find one, something is wrong.

It's always a good idea to let the engine warm up to normal operating temperature, but the ECM's control isn't so specific in the older boats. Running at 130 just makes the engine less efficient.

That manual needs to include info that was introduced well after 1994- it's an awfully broad time range, IMO. Factory manuals are much more specific to year- the one we got in '98 had 1997 at the top...

There’s no warm up phase on a ‘95 model- it’s like cars from that time: get in, hang on and go.

The easy test is to put the thermostat in 140-160 degre water and see if it opens. If it’s original, a new one is cheap insurance.
