There was a change put out by the manufacture. Fill them up and use 90 weight oil. I read the documentation on it when I was doing a service on my 06 while changing from plastic to metal caps. YMMV.

There are two engine coolant temp sensors. One for the gauge and one for the ECU. So the gauge could be reading correctly but the ECU is seeing something different.
