I would say 1/2" oversized should be good. Also from my use so far, it still slides sometimes with the anti-slip on it.

Also, so far after using it I love it. Everyone gives me compliments on it...

On my last boat I had the same issue (mine looked a lot worse). I used a rubber carpet backing material. Cleaned the rug and then brushed a few coats on. It worked really well.

I ended making my own and it turned out to be a pretty easy and not too expensive project. Cut out the support and had upholstery shop make the cushion.
