I'm dying to know which motor went in- they do mostly MV10s on their boats, but it could have easily been a Mercury or Volvo big block with a v drive.

the hull sides/deck are all varnished, not painted. Something like 10+ coats of an Epifanes product, and you have to flat block the whole thing between each coat, and then its buffed like fiberglass....

we've even surfed ours, with a few of our large friends sitting on the gunwale towards the back.

my opinion is that in your case all signs point to the x30- its a better all around boat and a better surfer than the star because of the transom design, and also easier to dial in the wake I believe...

I dont know what kind of wood it might have been originally, but if you use MDF that is heavily coated in CPEX preferably, or a similar epoxy works really well as a floor.
