I'm in Alabama too and I just bought an O'Neill Reactor 3/2 ($100 on Amazon). I'd like to add at least a month to the season on each end (April and October).

Easy and affordable for small stuff.

Stihl saws are hard to beat. However, I opted for a Husqvarna with a 20" bar. It is a 450 or 455 Rancher. I don't have any complaints.

They didn't make any recommendations on preservation product. However, their vinyl is Mastercraft OEM material, so whatever is suggested for the new boats should work well.
