Fairly sure thats not legal to use on the water. OP, I've not found much that works. The best thing is to keep the webs knocked down as much as possible.

As for birds, we've had pretty good luck...

2nd this. I'm 6'5" and was ~300 last summer. Red Rocket is a great board for big guys. very stable and easy to maintain speed. Not gonna do a lot of fancy stuff with it, but very solid to ride.
