The fuel gauge is likely just the sender magnets...

The fuel gauge is likely just the sender magnets have come loose. You can replace sender or re-epoxy magnets.

Anyhow, look on the ends of the heads if there are 3 raised lines they are GT-40s if it has 4...

It is engraved with something like 13x13x3x1 LH = 13" x 13 pitch x 3 or 4 blades x 1" shaft & with a LEFT HAND rotation...

There are 3 hash marks on the GT40 heads, which was the main difference for the HO motor. I think the diff b/n the 240 and 260 was a different cam, but I am not 100% on that. To avoid threadjacking...

Neighbor (across the lake) has a 80s S&S and he is running straight pipes and the difference is noticeable but mostly from behind the boat and in the upper revs. No big diff at idle that I can tell....
