The reprogrammed firmware does not monitor pump current, so it will work with any pump motor. The timer box breaker switches would be your over current protection.

Sounds like you may have a loose wire(s) in the control box. I would take out the relay box and inspect all of the connections. Look for anything corroded or loose.

We get a great surf wake on an X2 without any tabs. I put a 450# bag in the port rear locker and fill everything full and run 10.5 mph. Works great.
