if the engine has 1700 most likely the trans does to. check the fluid, smell it, if it smell burned be careful,...

The boat is new to me. The PO put ss allen head bolts on the valve covers and pulleys, not that is any indication of any internal mods but whoever put it together cared enough to add those touches...

I'd also spray some water on the cutlass bearing (where the prop shaft goes trought the strut) to keep from heating it up if you are going to run it more than a few seconds.
