Correct on that being a factory addition post-initial production for the alleged chine lock. They also added a small wing to the rudder at the same time.

The 143 degree thermostat at Napa is part # 18-3551 for the thermostat alone. With a gasket it is 18-3671. Not sure if that is the correct temp thermostat for your boat, but I think it is.

Sounds like a water pump bearing. Possibly alternator bearing. With the belt off, spin them by hand and see how they feel and sound. Look on the back of the thermostat and the temp should be stamped...

Just diagnosed my Ignitor II that failed. You need to have a minimum of 11.5 volts to the coil with the key on and 10 volts with the engine cranking.

I suspect that you still have a problem with your carb. The power valve will have no effect on idle quality unless the power valve is blown or fuel is leaking past it due to a poor seal at the gasket...
