Not to hijack, I'm having a similar issue: 1....

Not to hijack, I'm having a similar issue:

1. After a cold start, it dies after running for a few seconds. Restarts no problem.

2. Once up to temp and shut off for a few minutes, hard to restart....

Problem solved!

Test drove boat after new cable install and the steering is awesome!

To summarize: make sure rudder is full of grease and cable is in good condition.

To answer some of my own questions and help others, I followed the middle diagram for cable insertion and it came out perfect.

Also, the threaded tube needs to be adjusted so that you get 1.5 turns...

I agree. Also, the soft & slow start of the makita prevents slinging polish all over the place. The money you save with the HF unit will be time spent cleaning splatter. Not fun IMHO.
