I have never had a Johnson pump apart, so I don't know if it uses the same bearings as the Jabsco. The newer Jabsco pumps don't even use bearings. They just have bronze sleeves.

I bought my 2006 X15 in September 2013 for $42K with 190 hours. I would think that $40K and under would be a good deal for your. I am on the East Coast, so California prices could be higher.
