For the '87, they say 4600 RPM sustained... Yours may be less due to build date. Nonetheless, I'd follow whats in the book, unless you like pushing the limit...

Agreed...nothing wrong with WOT. My max rpm is a bit high at 4900. I dont' run often at 4900, but will regularly run 4500. My normal cruise rpm is typically 3300-3500.

Mine's 100% stock... with the powerslot. Maxes out around 44-45mph at 4800rpm. Before I rebuilt the carb it was 43mph - I gained one solid MPH, and almost 100 rpm from the carb rebuild.

Read the owners manual. It will tell you. Typically for a truck of that size, OD is off.

On the 2500 Dodge Diesel... I use OD... even with 15,000# - but it's designed for it.
