switch back in the points, but the gap was too much, reset it all finally had spark. Looks like it was a bad EI.

Yep, I had the same issue. I am now looking for a source for some good looking replacement switches. I ended up replacing the panel with a piece of Lexan that I spray painted black.

So I should be getting more than 8 to the coil. Any guess as to where I could be losing volts?

I just traced the purple wires from the ignition over to this, it is behind the gauges. Could that be the trouble? It has the name Mallory on it.
