On my X2 the RPMs vary to hold the boat at a constant, set speed...my guess is it's dependent upon the speed.

Might consider checking the fuel tank to see if there is water in the bottom of the tank. If so remove and start with fresh gasoline.

bobx1, yes I like that idea. Peal the carpet back, notch the 2x with a wood chisel and re-staple the carpet. That will take the pressure of the inlet grate.

I use 15w40 for my 2011 X2. Some say it keeps the plates from "slapping" each other at idle and low speed, thus creating a quieter transmission.
