I think you're over doing it. 50 hours is a decent amount but not worth 5k. To me 50 hours is worth 1k. I'd get them to compensate that in some form and move on.

The biggest issue is it will dry along the edges of the lettering, and leave a white outline, which takes a lot of effort tracing the letters to remove.

There are a lot of proven products that will make sure your vinyl stays nice and soft, and not sticky.

I use 303 Vinyl Protectant, and people complain it makes the vinyl slick. Lol. So try that.
